Yakutia is the largest and coldest region of Russia. Six indigenous peoples are living there who keep the memory of their ancestors and their traditions. For example, one of their ritual is to enter the house in a special way. ‘Before we enter the house, carefully shake off the snow, then look towards the door and cough. This is a message to the spirits of the house’, says a local resident. In winter, there is severe frost in Yakutia, and the temperature can drop to -70°C (-94°F). But this is not a hindrance for the locals. In such extreme weather they calmly walk and even play soccer. Only they have a ball made of reindeer hide, and sticks instead of a goal.
