Exploring the Ruins of an American Ghost City stuck in the 1940s !
A true American ghost town of mid century fashion. Located 33 miles west of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on the Ohio River lies a town established in 1797 when European surveyors built a fort in the area. The region would eventually be called Steubenville, named from the French Revolutionist, who aided the US during the American Revolution.
the region would eventually strike black gold in the 1850s as the discovery of coal was found in abundance. This started the building of coal mines and steel mills that powered the local economy for over 100 years until the mines ran dry, and as America couldn’t rival with cheaper prices over seas, the mines and plants shut down in the 1980s.
Since the 1940s , Steubenville has lost half of its peak population of 40,000 people, and today the affects of the lack of jobs are still affecting the region.
As we visit this former great American city, we are looking for signs of the past still presenting itself to this day, and this place has alot to adore &
