This black & white educational film is about the new “modern“ India vs the traditional, simple India that has existed for thousands of years. The movie compares rural village life to that of people who live in a modern city. At the time the film was made, India was a British Colony. This film was made in 1942 by the Film Advisory Board, a British government entity charged with making informational and propaganda movies. It features a wonderful score, and a commentary by Robert Stimson and was directed by Ezra Mir and A. Bhaskar Rao.

The Indian Institute of Science shown in the film is a public, deemed, research university for higher education and research in science, engineering, design, and management. It is located in Bengaluru, in the Indian state of Karnataka. The institute was established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata and thus is also locally known as the “Tata Institute“. It is ranked among the most prestigious academic institutions in India and has the highest citation per faculty among all the universities in the world.
