Hipped Roofs - the easiest way to make a scratch built hipped roof

Does the thought of making a scratch built hipped roof scare you? Do you think you need to understand the maths to work out the complicated angles to get all the parts of the roof to meet up properly? Think again! It is really, really, easy to make a hipped roof and in this video I show you how. I use the free open-source drawing software, Inkscape, in this tutorial, but all you really need is a ruler and something to draw with. Starting with a simple roof between two gable ends, I show three different buildings and how to easily make their roofs. There is no maths, no pairs of compasses, no Pythagoras, no measuring of angles. Hipped roofs can seem daunting when you first want to scratch build one. I scratch build my hipped roofs out of card and in N Scale, but this will work if you use plastic or model in other scales such as 00 gauge or O gauge. So after you watch this very short video, I hope that you too will discover how easy it can be to make a hipped roof, and be encouraged to make hipped roofs for your own scratch-built railway model buildings.
