J.S. Bach: Wachet auf, ruft uns die stimme

The first of Bach’s six Schübler Chorales, Wachet auf, ruft uns die stimme, commonly translated as “Wake, Awake for Night is Flying“, is based off a hymn tune by Philipp Nicolai. It is inspired by the parable of the wise and unwise virgins waiting for the bridegroom, and the theme of keeping watch is commonly associated with Advent. Organist: Anne Patterson
