The 600th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Katori Shinto-ryū

The 600th Anniversary of the Birth of lizasa Chōisai Commemorative Event was conducted on May 10 , 1987. It was a beautiful spring day . The event began with a service at Katori Jingü before moving to the Sawara Municipal Culture Hall for a demonstration event with 20 kobudo traditions including Katori Shinto - ryu . This was followed by a celebratory party . We had originally planned to hold the demonstration within the grounds of Katori Jingü , but decided on the Culture Hall following advice from Sawara City Hall . They reasoned that it would be the best option given the possibility of rain . The event was a resounding success . The venue was filled to capacity , with some attendees even standing to watch . At 10: 00 , my eldest son Ötake Nobutoshi delivered the event’s opening address as the organising committee chairperson , followed by the event chairperson , Iizasa Yasusada Söke’s speech. Our tradition has maintained the position that its teachings are not to be shown to outsiders , and to this day it has upheld the philosophy that one should never seek enemies , as well as that no one shall be turned away , nor tied to it . Since the establishment of the Nippon Kobudo Shinkōkai ( Japan Classical Martial Arts Promotion Society ) in 1935 , Katori Shinto - ryu has , as a member of the Society , presented a portion of its techniques to the public . Kobudo today is a significant cultural asset of the people of Japan . Our tradition was the first to be designated an intangible cultural asset in 1960 thanks to the warm support of Chiba Prefecture’s cultural asset authorities . Various traditions have since received cultural asset status throughout Japan . I am proud that Katori Shinto - ryu has been able to serve a pioneering role here , and express my gratitude once again to all those who have made this possible . It is my wish that Katori Shinto - ryu , as a classical martial art , contributes positively to the furtherment of people’s spiritual capac ity often neglected in our materialistic civilization , and that this tra dition is passed on correctly as a cultural asset to future generations . - TRATEGY AND THE ART OF PEACE: TENSHINSHO-DEN KATORI SHINTO-RYU (2016) by Risuke Ōtake sensei 01:00 Iaijutsu - Otake Risuke sensei 04:09 Omote no tachi 13:00 Gogyo no tachi 14:40 Omote no naginatajutsu 17:05 Ryoto 18:20 Omote no bojutsu 21:05 Kodachi 22:15 Shichijo no tachi 23:25 Omote no yari
