Subscribe to World Circuit - Afel Bocoum ’Lindé’ out now: Celebrated Malian songwriter and guitarist Afel Bocoum premieres ‘Dakamana’, taken from his album ‘Lindé’, out now via World Circuit Records. The song is a plea to his fellow Malians to come together, at a time when jihad, poverty and tribal war have brought the country to its knees. Afel explains: “Malian culture doesn’t recognise divisive expressions such as: ‘northerner’, ‘southerner’, ‘black’ and ‘white’. Let’s just say ‘Malian’, full stop. Social cohesion is our social security.” To the gentle click of the calabash and the twang of the kamele n’goni (large ‘youth’ harp), the song ripples along, river-like, with the trombone of Skatalites veteran Vin Gordon floating on top, a brash and stylish riverboat.
