Inside a Mediterranean Dream House Designed for a Growing Family (House Tour)

Casa F sees Williams Burton Leopardi seamlessly marry old and new elements whilst integrating bespoke moments throughout that allow for easy family living. The Mediterranean dream house is designed to age and grow with the occupants, as family lies at the centre of this residence – a sentiment exemplified by the architecture, interior design and landscape. The house tour shows Williams Burton Leopardi thoughtfully blending existing and contemporary elements with a combined sense of elegance, functionality and comfort. The layout of the Mediterranean dream house is defined by the openness felt between spaces and across thresholds. Located in Adelaide, Australia, typified by bluestone buildings with bay windows, Williams Burton Leopardi renovates the home without neglecting its original charm. As the clients are of Italian descent, a Mediterranean dream house centred on plenty of outdoor space, areas of retreat, sharing food and encouraging togetherness prevails. Central to this idea is the way the design follows a ‘town square’ arrangement between the main home and the pavilion. Considered additions in terms of furnishings and materiality evoke a softness and understatement that encourages relaxation in the Mediterranean dream house. The house tour shows Williams Burton Leopardi taking inspiration from the existing fabric of the home – a palette of natural materials such as washed oak flooring and natural stone. Furniture follows a restrained approach, inspiring a sense of retreat within. Light and views are also now part of the fabric of the previously dark and enclosed home. Views outward have been framed at every opportunity; for instance, through the new pivot door that looks out to an existing tree and the restored fence beyond. Williams Burton Leopardi cleverly filters northern light into the home through new screens and a beautiful vine, which allows dappled light to dance across surfaces. Bedrooms and front spaces receive soft southern light, imbuing these areas with calmness and tranquility. Casa F is a renovation made up of many layers, both new and existing. It is the rejuvenation and extension of this home that allows these elements to coalesce into a cohesive, functional and elegant Mediterranean dream house. 00:00 - Introduction to the Mediterranean Dream House 00:51 - An Original Bay Window Villa 01:09 - Family Centred Design 02:07 - The Layout of the House 02:45 - A Bound Garden 03:07 - Incorporating the Clients Mediterranean Lifestyle 04:20 - The Material Palette 04:50 - Experiencing the Home from the Inside Out 05:22 - A Focus On Light 06:12 - Using the Interiors to Create Contrast 06:41 - Favourite and Proud Aspects For more from The Local Project: Instagram – Website – Print Publication – Hardcover Book – The Local Project Marketplace – To subscribe to The Local Project’s Tri-Annual Print Publication see here – Photography by Caroline Cameron.
