Need For Mirrors - ’Dummy’

Need For Mirrors ‘Royal Blood EP’ Released 15th February 2019 PRGRAM075 A true master of his craft, it is no surprise Joe Moses’ work as Need For Mirrors is so prolific. There’s a vision to it: from the look of the art to the sound of the music - it’s all in the detail. His ‘Veto’ EP was the first seed sown of a relationship between the Soul in Motion co-founder and ProgRAM, and they have him back with the ‘Royal Blood’ EP. Four cuts deep with a range of styles on display, the monumental title track ‘Royal Blood’ is a rallying battle cry where earth shuddering horns blare throughout, giving it a movie score feel. The deliciously titled ‘Midnight at Morleys’ wobbles over rolling beats, subtle conga rides and distorted vocal patches. Layered piano and a tight sub bass help give ‘Keep Going’ a classy, intricate sound on the EP’s most musical offering. ‘Dummy’ closes the show with twinkling, delicate notes juxtaposed with a grimy bassline and shuffling, pacy drum patterns. All in all, the ‘Royal Blood’ EP is an exquisite collection of tracks from an artist whose output continues to impress. Make sure to look out for forthcoming Need For Mirrors material on Ram Records, but right now these four tracks implore you to stay with the ProgRAM.
