U.S. Senate leader Chuck Schumer calls for new elections in Israel while criticizing Netanyahu

Addressing the Senate, Schumer said Netanyahu had “lost his way“, with his operations in Gaza “too willing to tolerate the civilian toll.“ He also said “the Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel“ and that an election is needed to “allow for a healthy and open decision-making process about the future of Israel.“ Schumer also urged for negotiations for a two-state solution, saying the rejection of such a plan would be a “grave mistake.“ Democrat Schumer is the highest-ranking Jewish elected U.S. official and a long, strong supporter of Israel.
