Russia ends Victory Day celebrations with fireworks show in Moscow

Russia’s traditional Victory Day celebrations ended with a fireworks show in Moscow on Sunday night. Russians braved the rain and gathered on the streets to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two. The defeat of Nazi Germany in Europe is celebrated elsewhere a day earlier, on May 8, due to the time difference between Moscow and other European capitals when the surrender of the German forces took effect.
