Seven Eyes - Lucid Dreams

At the turn of the 19th century my great grandparents on my mother’s side travelled to Brazil by ship, seeking a better life, leaving behind their families, their cultural roots, their language (Arabic). They never returned to their homelands of Syria and Lebanon. In October 2020, I completed 10 years of living abroad from my native country Brazil. During this time in Europe I have had the opportunity to forge a closer relationship with the cultures of my heritage thanks to music and meeting musicians from around the world. I composed Lucid Dreams initially as an improvisation, tuning my guitar in a lower register to make it sound more like the Arabic lute. With the ney flute performed by Zayn Mohammed as well as Tanya Wells’ ethereal vocals, to me, the song has come to represent an exploration of a dream world carried in the minds of my nomadic middle Eastern ancestors.
