Live: Biden gives remarks on release of hostages

A number of Israeli hostages have been released from Gaza in a deal with Hamas, and have been transferred to the Egyptians, Israeli media has reported. The 13 women and children were handed over to the Red Cross earlier this afternoon, before making their way to the Rafah crossing. This comes after the first captives were released since the four-day ceasefire with Israel has begun, with 12 Thai hostages crossing the border to safety under a deal negotiated with Egypt. The four-day ceasefire began at 7am on Friday, and Qatar’s foreign ministry said 13 women and children taken hostage by Hamas on 7 October would be released via Egypt at 4pm – the first of at least 50 captives set to be freed under the deal. Increased aid for Palestinians will also start to enter Gaza “as soon as possible”,
