HOW TO DRAW FOR MAGAZINES? GRAZIA hello everyone, in this video I will tell you about my work with Grazia magazine I have been working with this magazine since 2019 Before that, I drew for the Italian version of the magazine the art director of the Italian magazine gave a recommendation to work with me and so I began to draw for the Australian version of the magazine This time I drew a portrait of Elle Fanning I created an illustration of a new fragrance and a portrait of Elle Fanning I want to give some recommendations on working with magazines in this video because this information will be useful for fulfilling orders the art director gave me references to create illustrations but I was free to work with references and take them as inspiration I advise you to use references only as inspiration (not to draw copies) The art director wrote to me on September 1 and the deadline was set for September 5 I coped with the task but the deadlines were tight I worked on weekends, but I don’t divide the week into working days and weekends I work as a freelancer and therefore I can work at any time and this is not a problem for me I have already drawn commercial illustrations for this magazine Therefore, I want to share useful information about cooperation with magazines 1 tip - create variability for the customer create several sketches so that the customer can choose I always draw the first sketch according to the customer’s requirements I draw the second sketch according to my feelings when I draw the second sketch, I know what the client wants, but I add my vision to the drawing the second sketch reflects my vision more in 99% of cases, the magazine provides more freedom for the illustrator and as a rule, customers always like the second sketch more the second sketch is more close to your style and vision, if you pass it through your perception prism when you draw sketches for a client, try to make the sketches different this is the mistake of novice illustrators when they draw 5-10 identical sketches the difference is only in the small elements of the drawing it is better to create different sketches with different composition and meaning this may irritate the client our task as an illustrator is to create sketches and give the customer the opportunity to make a choice because we have to save the customer’s time I’ll show you my sketches for the magazine this is the first sketch and reference that the magazine provided to me so that I could focus on the color scheme and the appearance of the actress we see that the photo does not reflect all the beauty of the actress and the second option, the second sketch I used a different reference for inspiration I wrote the text for the video because I like it when everything is structured and I will look here I think this reference does not quite reflect the beauty of Elle Fanning’s face she has very beautiful big eyes, a small nose, beautiful lips, a beautiful face I always analyze the appearance of the model to show it in the illustration In the second sketch, I inhaled another reference to show the beauty of the actress’ face I made one sketch for the perfume because the task was simple the magazine gave me some illustrations for inspiration maybe someone will see their illustrations here 2 tip - agree on sketches this is an important intermediate step that determines 60-70 percent of the work when you agree on a sketch, you can confidently work with color the art director approved my sketches and I started working with the color the art director suggested that I draw on golden paper but since I have a lot of experience with paper textures, I know that pastels will not draw on golden smooth paper And I realized that I would not be able to scan the golden paper That’s why I chose a warm beige color to create a beautiful illustration...
