There are also videos in this channel for many North, South & Central American Tribes & First Nations, Residential Schools, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ “The Wind River Indian Reservation“, in the west-central portion of the U.S. state of Wyoming, is shared by two Indigenous American tribes, the Eastern Shoshone (Shoshoni: Gweechoon Deka, meaning: “buffalo eaters“) and the Northern Arapaho (Arapaho: Hoteiniiciihehe’). Roughly 60 mi (97 km) east to west, by 50 mi (80 km) north to south, the reservation is located in the Wind River Basin and includes portions of the Wind River Range, Owl Creek Mountains and Absaroka Range. It is the seventh-largest American Indian reservation in the United States, by area and the fifth-largest by population. Fort Washakie is the oldest community on the reservation. Originally called Fort Brown, the name was changed in 1878, to honor Chief Washakie, who negotiated the treaty establishing the reservation. The legendary Buffalo Soldiers is the name given to U.S. Cavalrymen of African descent, who were stationed at Fort Washakie, in the late 1800’s. Today, many of the original military buildings can be seen in the Fort Washakie Historic District. Fort Washakie is home to the Shoshone Tribal Cultural Center.. and the cemeteries, where both Chief Washakie and Lewis and Clark’s Shoshone guide, Sacajawea, are buried. ------------------------------------------------ I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
