Testing the new Recording The Master LPR90 tape on three different tape recorders.

Test on Teac A-3300SX 2t hs, Akai GX-630D and ReVox A 77. For Teac and Akai, switch down source, switch up tape, For ReVox switching clockwise source, counterclockwise tape. Review: I had the privilege to test the new RTM LPR90 tape. This is the long play version of the SM900 studio tape. The equipment that i’ve used is the following: Teac A-3300SX 2track High Speed, Akai GX-630D, ReVox A 77, Yamaha PF-30, Yamaha BD-A1020, Yamaha C-80, Yamaha M-80 and JBL XPL200’s. The first test starts on the Teac witch is in mint condition and in factory adjustmets and i start with rewind the tape and looks if is goes nice evenwind on the supply reel and yes it does like the other RMG / RTM tapes. Than i start my first recording and on the Teac i get the most source equal sound with REC BIAS on 1 and REC EQ on 2. The LPR90 has a very good dynamic and you can recording it loud. Trying out how it records Sweet Smoke - Silly Sally especially the loud percussion session with very much treble in it, some tape’s go in distortion with this, the LPR90 not, it recording in very well. Than i start my listening test with Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing from LP and it sounds great, The Teac boost the upper high frequency’s a very little bit. Than a piece of jazz from LP and the LPR90 recording it delicate and recording al the details perfectly. Than Santana - No One To Depend On from LP, also this sounds very good with dynamics in the drums. Than Enya - Orinoco Flow from CD, now i hear very good that the LPR90 pick-up the bass very well, the bass sounds even deep and tight as on the cd, with this the LPR90 is better than the LPR35. Than one of my favorites, Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond from CD, also this sounds perfect on the LPR90 with the same impact. The last test on the Teac was a piece very dynamic classical music with big bangs, Strauss Jr. Banditen Galop Op. 378 from the CD Ein Straussfest by Erich Kunzel: Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. recording this to tape is very difficult but with the LPR90 it goes well, there is a audible noise floor but the enormous dynamics where perfectly recorded. Than i try the tape out on the Akai GX-630D in mint condition and in factory adjustments. The Akai has a little bit a fat sound with a small boost in bass and treble. With the tape selector in the WIDE RANGE position i get the most source equal sound. This tape sounds suprisingly well on the Akai with more refined high than know from the Akai with other tape’s. Than i try the LPR90 on the ReVox A 77 in mint condition and in the past adjusted on Maxell UD. On the ReVox the LPR90 sounds very neutral, very hard to discover difference between source and tape. The last test was cleaning the heads and tape running gear after playing the tape 5 times, the result no dirt on the cotton swab, it was totally white after cleaning. Shortly, the RTM LPR90 is a very good and dynamic tape that sounds om many recorders very well, just that little bit more than the LPR35 what is also a very good tape. In the Netherlands this and other tapes are available at
