Ski Tips - Short turns, Balance & Edging Skis Effectively

This will help you understand edging and how to apply it, control your speed and advance your skiing. Mastering this skill will give you more control over your carving and general skiing. Find an intermediate slope, something not intimidating to you but steep enough to side slip down. Point your skis 90 degrees across the mountain, roll your knees slightly down the hill to make you start sliding, then roll your knees in the opposite direction to stop yourself from sliding. Balance & Edging You want your tips and tails to leave the snow at the exact same time. Rolling your knees uphill will stop your momentum. Try this in both directions a few times. This will show you how far you have to roll your knees for your edges to engage in the snow. Popping Very important: Start by making some medium radius turns. In between every turn, as you are sliding across the slope, practice your pop by doing a small jump. Control your speed and advance your skiing.
