The Super Girl [1979] [ザ・スーパーガール] Opening & End Credits

Been a while since i’ve uploaded anything here, so I figured this would be a good time to do so. With that said, this is an interesting piece of history that i’m sure most people are unaware of, especially within the realm of Japanese TV that isn’t Ultraman or anything tokusatsu-related. Yes, the title of the series is literally “the super girl“ (no relation to the DC character), an adult-oriented crime drama series that ran from 1979 to 1980 to capitalize on the success of Charlie’s Angels that was becoming popular in Japan at the time, since this series also features an all-female cast working in a detective agency, ironically called SG7 (Super Girl Seven). As for why it’s called “The Super Girl“, it more or less has to do with the opening sequence that portrays the agency’s mascot, a sexy catgirl superhero saving the world from a bomb. Ironically enough, the animation for the opening was made by none other than Shotaro Ishinomori, the creator of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. So in a weird way, there is somewhat of Toku connection to this, despite the animation having a more western influence compared to Ishinimori’s more iconic anime-esque style. Unfortunately, I don’t know where you can find the episodes, so this is the best I could find. I hope you enjoy it tho. Also, yes, I’m also uploading this cause it features a catgirl, which wouldn’t surprise me if this show is why catigrls are a thing in Japan now. Lol.
